Southwest Airlines becomes third airline to fly from Paine Field terminal

January 31, 2018

By the end of 2018, there will be three airlines flying out of the new terminal at Paine Field.

Last week, Southwest Airlines announced it would be adding flights from Paine Field. This comes on the heels of Alaska Airlines’ announcement on Tuesday, Jan. 16 of eight flights from Paine Field. Last August, United Airlines announced it would be flying out of Paine Field as well.

According to a release from Southwest, they intend to have up to five departures daily from Paine Field starting when the new terminal opens this fall.

Southwest expects to reveal its flight schedule this spring.

"The people of Southwest pride ourselves in removing pain-points from travel, and we know traffic is an unpleasant reality between the North Sound and our world-famous value and hospitality," said Gary Kelly, Southwest Airlines' Chairman and CEO in Southwest’s press release. "A new, convenient airport experience in Everett will bring us closer to tens of thousands of our customers while providing a natural springboard for Southwest's warmth and ease."

In partnership with Snohomish County, Propeller Airports broke ground last June on the two-gate passenger terminal facility.

"We're excited that an industry leader like Southwest has chosen to serve our community. This rounds out our offering and brings us to full capacity," said Brett Smith, CEO of Propeller Airports. "This announcement means that from our first weeks of serving local travelers, Paine Field will offer tremendous convenience and great options."

Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers echoed Smith’s thoughts.

“We welcome Southwest Airlines to Snohomish County,” Somers said. “Their focus on customer service mirrors our efforts in the county. Since Paine Field is the economic engine for our region, we will do all we can to make commercial service a success. We now have three airlines that will be serving our residents and helping to strengthen our economy. We look forward to a strong partnership with these airlines.”

Currently, Southwest flies to 15 cities from Sea-Tac Airport and has more than 40 daily departures.
