Tonight we celebrate the second of eight nights of Hanukkah.

Each night of Hanukkah I proudly place my lit menorah in my front window sill so passersby can see that a proud Jew celebrating Hanukkah lives in my house.

Because I live in a welcoming and inclusive community, I can do this comfortably without fear of an anti-Semitic response.

The traditional explanation for Hanukkah is that it commemorates the triumph of Second Century B.C.E. Jews living in Judea (Palestine) over forced assimilation by the ruling Greek-Syrians.
