Rotary hands out 12 scholarships to seniors

Recipients of scholarships from the South Everett-Mukilteo Rotary Club were honored during a recent club meeting in Everett.

The South Everett-Mukilteo Rotary Club has awarded scholarships to 12 graduating seniors from Kamiak, Mariner and Cascade high schools.

The recipients – each of whom received a scholarship of between $500 and $1,500 – were recognized for their outstanding academic achievements, community service, and school involvement at a recent club meeting at Shawn O’Donnell’s American Pub & Irish Grill.

Recipients from Mariner include Mekdes Abate, Honglam Van, Marisol Hernandez-Galindo, Tyrone Jones and William Castro. Those from Kamiak include Bonnie Leung, Chris Lambert, Erin Dahl and Lillian Heard. Those from Cascade include Karli DuBois, Rayna LaFave-Clark and Maritza Ortega.

The club’s Youth Services Committee received 45 applications this year. That committee includes Alison Brynelson, Mike Spencer, Lori Kloes, Kendall Harr, Ken Hammond and chair Rob Prosch.

“This is one of my favorite times of the year,” Prosch said, noting that the selection committee saw an increase in the caliber of applications this year.

“As a first generation college student myself, I know how important any financial support can be for students. The final decisions were very difficult to make as so many of the students stood out with academics, extra-curricular involvement and community service. We know each one of them will shine brightly in the future, and we look forward to their community leadership in the future.”
