Mukilteo awards $317K in 2017 tourism grants

The city has awarded over $317,000 in 2017 Lodging Tax Grants to 17 community projects.

The city’s Lodging Tax Advisory Committee made recommendations to the City Council on how to award the grants. The council on Nov. 7 approved the grants.

The projects awarded funds include annual grants of $68,500 for the Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival, $48,000 to cover payment for the Mukilteo Visitor Center, $30,000 for the Rosehill Community Center and $5,000 for a Snohomish County Tourism Bureau program. The $68,500 totals two grants for the Lighthouse Festival.

The other projects receiving 2017 grants are:

Lighthouse Repairs: The city’s Public Works Department received $42,500 to repaint the Mukilteo Light Station.

Discover Mukilteo Campaign: The Chamber of Commerce was awarded $30,000 to go toward developing tourism packages that combine overnight stays with local attractions.

Rosehill Upgrades: The city’s Recreation and Cultural Services Department was awarded $22,000 to replace the floors and technology in the Pointe Elliott Room.

Garden & Quilt Tour: The Mukilteo Way Garden Club and the Mukilteo Lighthouse Quilters received $13,000 to host a two-day tour of Mukilteo gardens and quilts.

Rosehill Rental Marketing: The city’s Recreation and Cultural Services Department was awarded $10,670 to fund advertising and marketing of the Rosehill Community Center through regional publications and participating in a wedding show.

Mukilteo Car Show: The Chamber of Commerce received $8,950 for advertising and facility or equipment rentals to support the seventh annual Mukilteo Car Show.

Japanese Gulch: The city’s Recreation and Cultural Services Department was awarded $8,000 to install wayfinding maps and signs as was approved in the Japanese Gulch Master Plan.

Walking Tour: Jericho Bridge Church, in partnership with the Mukilteo Historical Society, received $6,380 to promote the walking tour that was established two years ago.

Social Marketing Services: Supercharge Marketing, in partnership with the city of Mukilteo, was awarded $6,000 to continue to create and promote a social marketing presence on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Google Plus.

Vintage Aircraft Weekend: The Historic Flight Foundation received $5,000 for STEM-focused children’s activities in the Kid Zone at the 10th annual Vintage Aircraft Weekend.

Information Center: The Chamber of Commerce was awarded $4,350 to fund visitor brochures, maps and other promotional materials.

Amazing Race Mukilteo: The Chamber of Commerce received $1,750 to fund staff time, T-shirts and advertising for the second Mukilteo-style Amazing Race.
