Reading email has become the least interesting part of my day, although that would have surprised me 20 years ago.
Back then, it was a new and intriguing way to keep in touch, an electronic post office that felt empowering.
Now my in-box is mostly a collection of notices from utility companies, reminding me to pay my bill. It’s a file cabinet, a place to store reminders.
I’m in touch with friends and family as much as ever, or as much as I want to be, but we’ve got more options now. I’m more likely to get a text message these days, or a Facebook message, or a comment on something...
