Listen for the holy sound: The awe of the shofar | Worship

The shofar is a primitive trumpet which is sounded during the Jewish High Holy Days or "Days of Awe."

One of the more awesome moments during the “Days of Awe,” the Jewish High Holy Days, is the sounding of the shofar.

We don’t just hear the sound of the shofar; we hear its blast.

On its face a shofar is just a primitive trumpet. But that ignores the symbolism and emotional power of the instrument.

Shofar construction rules are simple. It must be made of a curved animal horn, most often a ram’s horn. It must be in its natural form, naturally hollow, with no artificial materials.
