Passionate following for ultimate frisbee in Mukilteo

Kamiak High School teacher and swim coach Chris Erickson winds up to throw a pass at the Kasch Park ultimate frisbee game. He has played since the 70s.

Chris Erickson began playing ultimate frisbee in the 1970s with his swim teammates as a way to get away from the pool and get some exercise.

Almost 40 years later, Erickson has yet to give up the sport, playing as many as three times a week in different games in Snohomish County. Erickson is one many local residents who have taken up the fast-paced game, which has seen a significant increase in popularity in the last decade.

According to the 2013 Sports and Participation Report, 5.1 million people played ultimate frisbee in 2012, comparable to gymnastics (5.1 million), track and field (4....
