Christians interpret the Bible in different ways | Letter

Editor, The Beacon:

Fenton Rees' letter to the editor [“Pastor misses main point of the Bible,” Aug. 5, page 4] in response to pastor David Parks’ column in the Worship section about his personal relationship with the Bible is a great example of the diverse interpretations from two Christians.

I guess that could be one explanation of why there are about 200 English versions of the Bible and over 30,000 various Christian denominations throughout the world.

Perhaps this diversity could be summed up in 1 Corinthians 13:12 where the writer compares our perception of eternal life as "looking through a glass darkly.”

On a cautionary note, I recommend that Mr. Rees consider the impact of his statements by implying that Jesus may have been a "lunatic, Humpty Dumpty or a deliberate liar.”

Well, that's my two cents worth. I pray that all of us will focus our attention toward practicing acceptance, empathy and compassion for all people, regardless of there beliefs.

Best Regards,

Rod Amburgy,
