Tank Farm pier removal underway

Crews are working to remove more than 3,000 pilings from the Tank Farm pier over the next 18 months. Demolition of the pier started Aug. 6.

Demolition of an old pier on the Tank Farm started last week to make way for a new Mukilteo ferry landing.

The first of nearly 4,000 pilings that make up the Tank Farm pier was removed around noon on Aug. 6.

Removal of the 1,400-foot-long pier is the first of a two-phase project to replace the 60-year-old Mukilteo ferry terminal and relocate it to the Tank Farm.

“This is a significant milestone for the project,” said Nicole McIntosh, Washington State Ferries terminal engineering director. “Once the tank farm pier is removed, we can begin building the new terminal.”
