Church plans trip to Tanzania to help children | A&E brief

Unity Church in Lynnwood is planning a June trip to Tanzania, where 11 members of Unity – including one from Mukilteo – will help build a children’s hospital, birthing center and orphanage during their first global outreach project.

A send-off event to bless and celebrate their efforts to help children in Tanzania is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, May 30, at the church.

Enjoy African food and see a slideshow about the Zinga Project that 11 members of Unity Church in Lynnwood will be helping during their first Global Outreach project. One of the members, Kitty Okamoto, is a resident of Mukilteo.

In partnership with International Health Partners, Unity members will contribute more than two weeks of labor to the Zinga Project, which aims to serve Tanzanian children, high-risk mothers and orphans less than two years old. It will be the first hospital dedicated to the 18 million Tanzanian children age 14 and under.

“We could be building fences, painting, and planting flowers and gardens,” said Barb Keogan, Unity administrator. “Whatever needs to be done is what we will do. I am so excited and honored by this amazing opportunity.”

Unity Church in Lynnwood welcomes donations to help fund the trip and needed supplies.

Donations can be made by calling the church at 425-741-7172, or online at

Unity Church in Lynnwood is at 16727 Alderwood Mall Parkway in Lynnwood.
