3 teachers recognized by Gear Up & Go | School brief

Three Mukilteo teachers are among 24 in Snohomish County to receive special recognition for their efforts in the Gear Up & Go program.

The program is an initiative of the Snohomish County Health Leadership Coalition where fifth grade students wear Sqord Powerpods to measure their level of activity.

Hazel Beiermann of Columbia Elementary, Mary Murray of Discovery Elementary and Bill Niegermann of Serene Lake Elementary are leading the effort at schools that are among those that have had the highest engagement and activity levels in their first year of the program.

“I cannot overstate how proud I am of this group of teachers, their students and what they have been able to accomplish in such a short amount of time” said Scott Forslund, director of the Snohomish County Health Leadership Coalition.

“It is truly remarkable to behold and their commitment to ensuring the health and education of their students is a daily inspiration.”

Gear Up & Go was launched in 2013 and is designed to help foster a life-long commitment to a healthy lifestyle for Snohomish County youth.
