New policy allows city employees to take day off for faith | City brief

The city now allows city employees to take days off for reasons of faith.

As required by state law, Mukilteo has established a policy for city employees to receive up to two unpaid holidays per year for reason of faith or conscience, according to city staff.

A state law was passed to accommodate employees for whom traditionally recognized holidays do not correspond with their religion.

The exception is if a request for a day off creates “undue hardship” for the employer, or the employee is needed to maintain public safety.
