School board report for May 29

During its meeting on May 29, the Mukilteo School Board did the following:

Recognized the winners of the second semester Lighthouse Award, the highest honor that can bestowed upon a school district employee. The winner among certificated staff members was Alison Mead, counselor at Kamiak HS, and the winner among classified staff members was Anita Stuart, administrative assistant in the special education department.

Were introduced to the students who have been chosen to serve on the board as student directors during the 2012-13 school year. The new student directors will be Jazmyne Towns of ACES, MacKenzie Gaddy of Kamiak, and Hector Ruiz of Mariner. The board also recognized the students who served as student directors this school year: Amber Perrupato of ACES, Kevin McGowan of Kamiak, and Faith Dawson of Mariner. The new student directors will be sworn-in during the June 11 meeting.

Approved a revision to Board Policy 3330 (Emergency Removal from a Class, Subject or Activity) to comply with current provisions in the Washington State Administrative Code.

Passed a resolution certifying the school district’s intent to comply with OSPI requirements for the completion and award of an Energy Operational Cost Saving Improvement Grant of $400,000.

Heard staff reports about and discussed the following: an overview of the first year of implementing new science materials for 6th grade through biology, the results of the 2012 parent survey, and the superintendent’s final recommendation for the school district’s 2012-13 General Fund operating budget.

During a work session held before the general business meeting, members of the school board debriefed with outgoing student directors about their experiences during the year. The board also met in executive session to review the performance of an employee.
