Start fall off on the right foot (or paw) with a morning spent zipping along side the scenic Snohomish River – dogs welcome!

Be part of the scene as Everett Parks and Recreation launches its new 5K-9 Fun Run and Walk at Langus Riverfront Park, 400 Smith Island Road at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2.

Revel in the hair-flying, tongue-flapping rush of running in sync with your furry companion. Or set a more relaxed pace and enjoy spotting (and sniffing) migrating birds, fall color and river life.

The first overall finisher and first-place participants in each of seven age categories will receive awards: under 12, 12-15, 16-24, 25-35, 36-45, 46-55 and 55+.

Advance registration is $20 per person with a T-shirt or $15 without a T-shirt ($40 or $35 per family).

Event-day registration will be available at the park for a higher fee. Registration forms can be downloaded at www.everettwa.org/parks or call the recreation office at 425-257-8300 ext. 2.

All ages are welcome. Parent or guardian signature is required for children under 17.

Dogs of all breeds are invited but not required. Canine participants should be leashed, well-behaved and in good health.

Spectators are welcome, too – there is much to see at Langus Riverfront Park. Enjoy a picnic or barbecue at the facilities, a boat launch and fishing dock, and a three-mile paved, level path into the Spencer Island wetlands, a perennial favorite resting spot of raptors, shorebirds and waterfowl.
