‘The Gypsy King’ features Village Theatre royalty
“The Gypsy King” is a strange and wonderful mixture of great entertainment, with elements of “Aladdin” and “Dave” and Gilbert & Sullivan. The story opens with an elderly man named Leo, and his grown son Frederick. They are traveling entertainers who don’t have much luck. Then Frederick encounters a woman named Anisette who’s on the run from an upcoming wedding. She’s the bride. She’s also the princess.
Office romances complicate ‘The Pajama Game’
Every once in awhile, the audience comes across a good musical that they’ve never heard of. These are the exception. The reasoning is usually; “if it was any good, I would have heard of it by now.” This is NOT always the case. Kamiak Drama’s latest effort, Tony award winning The Pajama Game, is a perfect example of that belief being wrong.
Go out ‘On the Town’ at 5th Avenue Theatre
It’s 1944 and WWII is on, but sailors Ozzie, Chip and Gabey have 24 hours of leave to pack in as much living as they can before reporting back to the ship. The boys hit Manhattan and Coney Island; ride the subway; get chased by cops, nuns, and love-starved women; and find, then lose, then find love again, all in their one-day furlough.
The Hallelujah Girls
"The Hallelujah Girls" starts with a certain comical logic. Make the characters as eccentric as possible, keep the comedy rolling as fast as possible. It works. It's entirely absurd, but if you don't let rationality get in the way, it works. The story revolves around a group of five middle-aged women. After one of their friends dies, one of them decides that she didn't want to waste any more time. Sugar Lee Thompkins decides to start her own spa.

Escape to Titipu with the Mikado
Need an escape? Why not visit the charming village of Titipu, at Historic Everett Theatre where the Northwest Savoyards are presenting Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado. The story takes place long ago in the Japanese village Titipu. A young minstrel named Nanki-Poo wanders into town looking for Yum-Yum, the woman that he’s fallen in love with. He soon discovers that there are complications. Too many to go into.
Lose yourself in ‘Lost in Yonkers’
Neil Simon has a wonderful reputation for writing about bleak situations and making them hilarious comedies. Such is the case with “Lost in Yonkers,” the Village Theatre’s latest production.
Legally Blonde is almost too fun to be legal
Delta Nu Sorority member Elle Woods (Becky Gulsvig) has her life planned out. She's just graduated with a fashion degree, lives to shop and expects her boyfriend, Harvard Law bound Werner Huntington III (Jeff McLean), to propose any day now. Werner, however, has plans of his own, and they don't include marrying a sorority bimbo. He needs a smart girl, a Harvard girl, to help him achieve his goals in life.
