Tame the Tiger is a reading program began at ACES last year to honor students who have read more books in their Focus classes than was expected.

Those who met or exceeded their goals were honored in a celebration at the school recently.

In Focus classes students read for 20 minutes every day. The teacher requires students read at least one book each quarter, then be interviewed on the ideas and facts presented.

Students may even take an AR test on the book to see what they remember from it.

All books they read are queried this same way.  This has been a very successful reading program.

We had more than 40 students attend our celebration, where they enjoyed free pizza and pop.

Mukilteo head librarian Kathleen Fernandez came and shared some books that teens love to read.

This was really great because the students learned of some new books.

We had a student read 104 books, another read 30, and another, 20.

Many read between 3 and 10 books, also exceeding their goals.

This is a very popular program in our school and it is motivating students to read.

We are grateful for all of the merchants that donated prizes for our celebration.

Dani Russell and Linda Sager were in charge of this program, supported by ACES principal Marcie Polin and her staff.
