School Features

The district-wide spelling bee, sponsored by the Mukilteo PTSA Council, was held Wednesday night at Explorer Middle School.

"We were bee-dazzled by the turnout - hundreds of people there to cheer on the spellers!" Mukilteo PTSA Council co-president Rick Simon said.

Participating elementary schools included Columbia, Discovery, Endeavour, Horizon, Mukilteo, Olivia Park, Picnic Point and Serene Lake. All participants received ribbons; additionally, the first-, second- and third-place finishers for each grade level received a super-cool spelling bee medallion.

Congratulations to all participants, and thanks to everyone who made it possible!

Kindergarten

1st Place: Joshua Tran, Mukilteo Elem. (winning word: books)

2nd Place: Ella Lawson, Serene Lake

3rd Place: Arleen Cheema, Columbia

 

First grade

1st Place: Lila Penney, Columbia (winning word: comfortable)

2nd Place: Ansel Joseph, Mukilteo Elementary 

3rd Place: Shivam Bansal, Columbia

No. 13 proves lucky for Columbia first grader Lila Penney, who was quite comfortable earning first place.

 

Second grade

1st Place: Erin McKibbin, Picnic Point (winning word: struggle)

2nd Place: Zach Nicholson, Mukilteo Elem.

3rd Place: Bobby Niedringhaus, Mukilteo Elem.

Hard work and lots of preparation meant Picnic Point second grader Erin McKibbon didn’t have to struggle to earn first place in the district wide competition last week.
