Jean was born to architect Eric Rising and Northwest artist Dorothy Milne Rising. She was sister to Carl Rising (deceased) and Richard Rising (Judith) and beloved wife of Bob Leghorn.
Jean graduated at 16 from Roosevelt High School, attended the U of W, a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Jean graduated at 20 in Home Economics and was an accomplished violinist who played in the Symphony.
During her first marriage to Chris Dariotis, Jean raised 3 sons who survive her: Tom, Christopher, and Dean. Dean and Cyndy Dariotis have 2 children, Aimee and Alex and 4 grandchildren. Dr. Wei Ming Dariotis, daughter of Tom Dariotis, lives in San Francisco.
In 1974, Jean met Bob Leghorn. After working late one night, Bob asked Jean to marry him and she said yes, and they were married February 16, 1975.
Their love continued to grow every day for the next 33 years. Working together as homebuilders, side by side, they designed and built many homes in the Puget Sound area. They looked after each other with constant caring and devotion, ending every day by telling each other, "Our love grows stronger every day".
They traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Mediterranean, and were always planning their next trip.
Jean was the light of our blended family, which also included Patsy and Frank Lanborn, stepson Mike Leghorn (Polly); stepdaughter Kristi Kromarek as well as numerous nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.
Jean suffered a stroke in December of 2008, and the struggle for her to recover kept Bob at her side day and night. She continued to care about all those who loved her and her clear blue eyes expressed her love eloquently. She will be deeply missed.
Memorial service to celebrate Jean Leghorn's life will be held on June 28th, at 2 pm with reception to follow, at The University Congregational Church, 4515 16th Avenue NE, Seattle, WA 98105 in the Chapel where she and Bob were married.
