Thanks to Troop 189

I would like to thank and commend Troop 189’s representatives who gave cheerful service to the Mukilteo Historical Society and the Descendants of the Pioneers this past weekend.

Thank you to voters of EMS Levy

On behalf of the men and women of the Mukilteo Fire Department, I want to sincerely thank the voters of our community for their renewal of our EMS Levy.

Politics changing city of Mukilteo

On Monday, Aug. 9, as usual I began my day with a trip to the Mukilteo Post Office to pick up mail and a newspaper from the newsstand. I'm retired. What I experienced there was totally appalling!

Say "No" to tax increase

The city of Mukilteo is asking us for an increase in the EMS levy from 23 cents to 50 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation. That is more than double our current level.

Do the math and vote “Yes”

On Aug. 17, Mukilteo voters will be voting to fund the EMS Levy. Last week, Beacon reporter Rebecca Carr provided a thorough and concise article outlining the reasons why this is the right thing to do.

Keep Mukilteo's EMS as is

After much review and discussion with the staff of the city of Mukilteo, I will be voting “No” on the EMS Levy.

Print EMS Levy pro statement

I had the privilege of helping craft the pro statement for the voter’s pamphlet on the upcoming EMS Levy for Mukilteo. Unfortunately, the voter’s pamphlet is not being mailed and is only accessible online. Please print the message for those without the benefit of a computer.

EMS Levy a priority

I am writing in support of the EMS Levy Mukilteo residents are currently voting on. I am typically not a supporter of tax increases, but passing this levy is a must-do, for a couple of reasons.

What’s behind Eyman’s approach?

Your editorial "Let the People Decide," published on Thursday, July 22, was well-written and informative, presenting the facts clearly so that your opinion could be understood and appreciated.

Keep our troops for homeland security

We have more troops and war equipment scattered around the world than the rest of the world combined. Doesn’t that leave the United States vulnerable? Who is left here on our soil to guard our homeland?

Mayor to Murray

Dear Senator Murray: Thank you for your leadership and tireless support of Mukilteo’s efforts to reclaim our waterfront and create a vibrant business and recreation area along our beautiful Sound. The Mukilteo City Council and I are asking again for your support of our community.

Firefighters' thank you to community

Thank you for your generous donation of $8,693 to the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s annual firefighter fundraiser Fill the Boot in 2009.

Point cameras at drug dealers

I appreciate all the work you're doing to install red-light cameras in Mukilteo. However, I have a suggestion.

Cameras don't make us safer

It is painfully obvious to most serious observers that ATS and the city officials are terrified of allowing the citizens to vote freely on the use of traffic cameras.

EMS results come August primary

Sixty percent of those votes cast is a “slam dunk” to increase the EMS fees (taxes) to 50 cents per $1,000 of property assessed values.

People who make a community

We would like to thank the Japanese Gulch Group for their support of the community trail maintenance activities in lower Japanese Gulch on July 11th.

Annexation has benefits

The reasons for Mukilteo to pursue annexation is twofold; first, to broaden the tax base and second, to allow the city to better manage the surrounding areas to assure they conform to the model we have for our community.

Annexation won’t help

I am not usually a NIMBY, (Not In My Backyard) person, but citizens of Mukilteo must agree our backyard is very nice.

Let the scare tactics begin

Reference Emily Vanderwielen’s letter (Truth hits home, Beacon, June 30), what is “the truth”? A casino is going in on the Speedway. Wow – hide the women and children! How could this happen? Next thing you know there will be a proliferation of casinos, maybe even strip clubs, gun shops and other nefarious businesses! Scary, huh? Except that’s all it is – more spin and scare tactics by proponents of the annexation issue.

No to traffic cameras

Tim Eyman is right. Let the people vote on traffic cameras. I signed the petition and want to vote NO.
