As summer settles upon Mukilteo, more and more residents are drawn to outdoor activities. As a result, we all look for ways to have fun with family and friends without having to travel far or empty our wallets.
During the summer, outdoor concerts and activities at the farmers' market draw people outside to enjoy the warm days, park and beach.
Local residents are seeking out recreational areas within the community. It doesn’t matter whether you are a competitive athlete or a recreational enthusiast, it’s nice to have scenic places nearby to enjoy.
Japanese Gulch is a lush natural area popular with many people in the community. It’s a perfect place to explore the natural beauty of this community.
The gulch is full of trails with abundant wildlife, plants and trees. It’s an excellent place to learn about Washington’s great outdoors.
With many scenic views of the gulch and peek-a-boo sights of Puget Sound, the gulch is an inspirational setting for many local artists.
Recently, the Japanese Gulch Group has become more visible. They have hosted several events in the gulch.
On July 11, a family nature walk was co-hosted with an emphasis on the various types of plants and trees in Japanese Gulch.
The group also co-organized a community work party. This consisted of volunteers who worked to improve the trails.
Jon Baker, from the Pilchuck Audubon Society, held a bird walk through the gulch.
As these events were taking place, the city of Mukilteo finalized the purchase of 16 acres within the gulch. The good news is this green space will not be developed. Unfortunately, 97.7 acres of the gulch remain to be purchased and preserved.
Many local residents feel it would be a shame for the last green space in Snohomish County to be bulldozed and commercially developed.
The Japanese Gulch Group is always seeking volunteers and donations. More information regarding this group can be accessed via their website - japanesegulch.org.
Residents of the Mukilteo community are encouraged to visit the gulch. Japanese Gulch holds treasures for everyone.
