Do you make New Year’s resolutions year after year to lose weight, eat healthier and exercise more – but never see lasting change?

For you, Quality Fitness in Mukilteo presents the Lifestyle Change Boot Camp.

The boot camp is an intensive, all-inclusive fitness course designed to help you make eating, exercise and emotional changes that will stay with you the rest of your life.

An expert staff will teach you how to eat for your health (June Quick), exercises that you can do anywhere (Lori DuBois) and how to break bad habits and form new ones (Kathryn Hansen).

“What we’re presenting is not a weight loss program, but a way to eat healthily, to live healthily, and to be relaxed,” said Kay Peterson, owner of Quality Fitness. “The whole mind-body connection is there.”

“This is for people who want to make a real change in their life.”

The eight-week course starts Tuesday, Jan. 31, and ends Sunday, March 25. Three classes are scheduled a week, one with each expert. Each session lasts one hour.

Tuesdays at 7 p.m. is class with June Quick, leader of the boot camp, for a nutrition workshop.

The workshop focuses on how to change your approach to food, create an eating plan, learn to shop, read nutrition labels, and how to prepare meals. Quick is a physical therapist and former athletic trainer.

“We’re not going to just say, ‘Here, eat this for the next eight weeks and you’ll lose weight,’” Peterson said. “We want you to achieve true change by learning which foods your body needs.”

Thursdays at 7 p.m. is class with Lori DuBois for an interval workout.  The workouts are designed to build muscle, increase metabolism and improve your cardio/vascular system. The class is appropriate for all fitness levels. DuBois is a certified personal trainer.

“We’re going to do lot of varied exercises in an hour,” Peterson said. “You’ll have some cardio, you’ll have some weightlifting, you’ll have some body weight work, and it will all be with hand weights.  All exercises you can do at home as well as in the studio.”

Sundays at 4:30 p.m. is class with Kathryn Hansen for self-reflection through guided meditation. The sessions focus on lifestyle change, positive attitudes, and forming excellent eating and exercise habits. Hansen is a certified life coach and teaches meditation classes.

“The program is simple, but it’s hard,” Quick said.  “The harder part of it is the change part, so the meditation is really going to help you focus on how to convince your heart and your soul that you really need to follow through with these changes.”

At the end of eight weeks, Quick said, you will find greater energy, a stronger immune system, a leaner and stronger body, and a more positive outlook.

“We’ll really work hard on these changes so that when you ‘graduate’ you’ll be more fit physically, emotionally and mentally,” Peterson said.

“What a great way to learn – it’s like learning to fish instead of being fed a fish.”

Cost is $474 for 24 sessions. Quality Fitness members receive a 20 percent discount. Optional monthly follow-up and private sessions are also available.

Each participant will be provided with a water bottle, T-shirt, journal, candle, workout/relaxation CD, as well as a binder with grocery lists, a planner, tips and handouts, class schedule and a phone list inside.

All classes are held at Quality Fitness, except a few field trips to the local grocery store.
