Farshid Babazadeh and his son Shyon Babazadeh, of the father-son band The Soundview Ensemble are joining several Mukilteo bands in the annual Microbrew and Wine Garden show at the Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival.
In the last four months, local band The Soundview Ensemble (Farshid and Shyon Babazadeh) has performed their blues, flamenco and Persian music for Mukilteo at Amici Bistro, Wine 101 and the Red Cup Café.
Now, the fathers-son band is amping up for a performance in the beer garden at the Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival.
The Mukilteo Chamber of Commerce and Diamond Knot Brewing Co. are sponsoring the annual Microbrew and Wine Garden show (for ages 21 and over) at Lighthouse Park the weekend of Sept. 10-11.
New to the beer garden this year are several opening performances, including local artists known to play at the Red Cup Café on Waterfront Wednesdays Open Mic Night.
“Hopefully we can get a lot of support for the local music scene,” Shyon Babazadeh said. “As Mukilteo bands playing in a Mukilteo festival, maybe we can get people to come with their friends and create some publicity.”
The show, which runs from 4 to 11:30 p.m. on Friday and from 3 to 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, is part of the 45th annual Lighthouse Festival.
“I’m excited about this because we’re always looking for local talent, and to give them a chance to perform,” said show producer Jim Brown of adding local bands to the line-up.
“It’s really fun for them to get in front of a large audience on a professional stage.”
Several bands are scheduled to perform at the beer garden each night:
Four openers kick off the show at 4 p.m. Friday, followed by the pop and classic rock band The Machine starting at 8:15 p.m. The line-up for the opening bands on Friday is Joanne Davis, Sue Chrysler, Christo Z. Free and finally Gil Rene.
Starting at 3 p.m. Saturday, the bands The Soundview Ensemble and Three Miles High open for the rock ‘n’ roll band Bad Habit at 5:15 p.m. and the classic and original rock Dana Osborn Band at 8:15 p.m.
Bad Habit is returning for its third year at the beer garden, while the Dana Osborn Band is returning for the fifth.
Three breweries from Snohomish County will be pouring at the beer garden, said Patti Youngbluth, marketing director at Diamond Knot. Those breweries are: Diamond Knot (Mukilteo), Lazy Boy (Everett), and Scuttlebutt (Everett).
"We've done this quite a few years, and this year is also in memory of my partner Brian Sollenberger, who passed away last year," said Diamond Knot owner Bob Maphet.
"He was an integral part in encouraging the chamber to raise funds using local beers."
Admission is $10 and includes the first drink. Inside the beer garden, festival goers can purchase microbrews and local wines for $5. Beer bratwurst and nachos from QFC will also be served.
“It’s always a great celebration with local music, local microbrews and a great location at the beach,” said Chamber Executive Director Shannon McCarty.
All proceeds from the beer garden go to the Mukilteo Chamber Scholarship Fund to help support local, college-bound students.
“Make plans to attend because you’ll be supporting local high school students and because this is the most fun outdoor event that we have in the summer in Mukilteo,” McCarty said.
