A man was booked into Snohomish County Jail on charges of second-degree assault, first-degree burglary, unlawful imprisonment and harassment. Bail was set at a total of $350,000.
Abdifatah "Abdi" Osman allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment in Mukilteo on Friday, Aug. 13, held her there against her will and assaulted her, according to police.
“The circumstances are unclear,” said Cheol Kang, Mukilteo’s crime prevention officer. “As an ex-boyfriend, we’re not sure if he was still living there or had just moved out.”
Mukilteo police responded to a call at 8:39 p.m. Friday from residents of apartments on the 8300 block of 53rd Avenue West reporting a possible case of domestic violence.
The victim told police that Osman had broken into her apartment, struck her in the head, choked her, and wouldn’t let her go, Kang said.
Osman fled the apartment, and police conducted an extensive search that lasted until the next morning.
Police set a perimeter of several blocks in all directions, and multiple K9 dogs and a helicopter were used in the search, but Osman was not found.
According to police, Osman returned to the apartment the following day, Aug. 14, and was seen by officers running across 84th Street and climbing over a fence.
Police set a perimeter and called for a K9 dog from Lynnwood Police Department, but Osman surrendered minutes after the K9 arrived.
Osman was taken to Providence hospital after complaining of a possible arm injury, and then was booked at the jail.
The case is still under investigation, Kang said.
