My hope is
that all you readers enjoyed a peaceful and happy holiday season. I thought I’d
wait until the holidays and the New Year got under way before offering my
opinions on all things sports. All things sports that I’m interested in, that
is.
I mean,
it’s not like anything has happened over the last few weeks that might give
myself and Frank something to blog about. Or was there?
About mid
way through the Seahawk season Frank and I were talking and the Hawks came up
in the conversations. I recall saying something like ‘because it’s his first
year, we should give Coach Mora more time before deciding whether hiring him
was a good or bad idea, but something seems terribly wrong with the team.’
Well, the decision was made to get rid
of him after one season. Not sure he got a fair shake, but he does leave with a
lot ($12 Million) to help sooth his pride. What really makes me wonder is the
fact the same people who decided that naming Mora Head Coach was a good idea, are
the same ones who let him go after a year. Both decisions may prove to be
hasty.
As for the
man they hired to replace him, you can’t listen to the local sports talk
stations to not know EVERYTHING about him. Except this: Carroll was a two-time
(1971-72) All-Pacific Coast Conference free safety at Pacific and earned his
bachelor’s degree in 1973 in business administration. He received his secondary
teaching credential and a master’s degree in physical education from Pacific in
1976. He was inducted into the Pacific Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995 (taken
from Pete’s webpage-http://www.petecarroll.com/about_pete/). Now you have
everything you need to know.
It seems
the Husky Men’s BBall team has a Brockman deficiency. They sure look pretty
soft inside (bball lingo for close to the basket) and if they don’t fix it,
it’ll be a long season. Meanwhile, across the state in bustling metropolis of
Pullman, Coach Len ‘throw me a’ Bone has picked up right where Tony Bennett
left off, meaning the Cougs look like they could win a few games again this
year. It’s nice to have good bball both side of the state. Here’s hoping the UW
fixes their problem.
The Mover
and the Shaker of Safeco continues to move and shake the Mariners. The moves
look good to me, especially getting Franklin G under contract for three/four
more years. Franklin is as graceful a center fielder as anyone in the game.
So there
you have it, football, basketball and baseball all in one blog!
Now get out
there and take one for the team!
